Excuse my rant today, but I’m so ticked about these companies that we do business with such as ComEd – our local utility department, and my current City Utility department where I pay to have my trash picked up, that charge a fee of on or about $3.50 per transaction to pay my bill, for their services, on their own site.
I understand that incorporating a payment system online costs money, but wouldn’t it stand to reason to be the preferred method of payment?
After all, it’s a pretty sure way of determining your money is in.da.bank. when processed and alleviates having to pay an employee to manually go through payments sent in the mail, enter them in on a spreadsheet and notate their online account that payment has in fact, been made.
How’s about using this an an incentive for customers instead of penalizing them?
Perhaps incorporating it in your marketing initiatives in creating awesomesauce customer service that ensures your customers have an easy, hassle free, inexpensive way to pay their bill – YOUR bill for YOUR services and products.
It just doesn’t make sense. Can anyone please tell me otherwise?
I’m not sure why you are getting hit with a $3.50 fee just for paying your bill online. I would think that is what the utility company would want you to do since it’s easier for them to receive payment that way. I would think you should get a discount for paying online!
I know, Jill. You would think that this would be something they would encourage. They stink. That is all.
